Martin J. Beacom, son of Ellen Hogan and Thomas Beacom was born November 11, 1870, at his parent’s home. Due to poor health of is mother he was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Martin Barrett of Jackson, Nebraska. He attended school at Jackson Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Catherine O’Hara, July 27, 1892 at St. John’s Church, Brady’s Crossing, Willis, Nebraska. He was engaged in farming for two years in this locality. He then moved and bought a farm in Pigeon Precinct near Waterbury, Nebraska. He served on the school board for 35 years and has served as democratic chairman for Pigeon Precinct for 40 years. He raised purebred stock and fed stock which topped the market several times. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. His wife passed away July 31, 1941. To this union eleven children were born (Mary Ellen Beacom, Anna Beacom, Margaret Beacom, Jane Beacom, John Ambose Beacom, Leo Beacom, Paul Beacom, and Monica Beacom). Three died at infancy
